INTEL JOINS SIEMENS IN WIMAX DRIVE.

Intel has delivered another clear signal that it believes; WiMax .(Worldwide interoperability for microwave access) will follow in WIFI's footsteps as the next revolution in wireless technology.
The chip giant has joined forces with siemens to develop network infrastructures and end-user equipment based on the recently approved IEEE 802.16d broadband fixed wireless starndard, known as WiMAx.

.In the last two years, However, starndardisation of wireless Metropolitan Area Networks (WMAN) has become a reality, based on the 802.16 specifications
compared to WiFi ( also known as WLAN or 802.11, whose hotspots cover distances of up to 100 meters).

WiMax can deliver maximum speeds of 70Mbit/s up to 30 miles away from a transmitting basestation.WiMaxcan simultaneously support more than 60 businesses with T1- TYPE., connectivity and hundreds of homes with DSL -type speeds through just one of up to six sectors forming a basestation. this means it could be an economical way to fill the gaps in terrestial broadband coverage of rural areas.BT is testing the technology in four UK rural communities.
